Lauren Clelland is a histologist in the MRI pathology lab, sampling ruminant brains as part of Scotland’s livestock surveillance system. She also assists with research projects across Moredun.
In 2018, Lauren graduated from Glasgow university with a 2:1 degree in Veterinary Bioscience. This focused on many different veterinary diagnostic theory and techniques and lead me to want to pursue a career in animal research. At university she had the chance to do various internships, with her two favourites being in histology and equine nutrition. This, along with other subjects lead me to have interests in infectious diseases and the welfare implications.
After university and after working abroad in a dairy farm, she took a job working in a national milk lab to gain experience in infectious disease diagnostics. She primarily used ELISAs for multiple bovine pathogens but after 1 year she decided to move on to Moredun to focus on animal research and learn new techniques from our experts.
