Moredun Scientific Welcomes New Board Member Hamish Rodger

Dr Hamish Rodger has been appointed to the board of Moredun Scientific.  He brings with him over 40 years of experience in the global aquaculture industry and will be an enormous asset to the company.

Following 16 years running his own aquaculture veterinary practice he was the Global Managing Director for Fish Vet Group and a board member for Benchmark Animal Health Ltd.  Most recently he was part of the management team at PatoGen, a leading Norwegian aquaculture diagnostic company.  He was also appointed the Chief Fish Health Officer, providing advisory, consultancy, diagnostic and management services.

Hamish qualified as a veterinarian at the University of Glasgow in 1984, following which he worked in mixed practice before completing an MSc in aquatic veterinary studies and a PhD in a salmonid virus (piscine reovirus), both at the University of Stirling. His extensive academic work includes multiple research projects in the USA, Ireland UK and Norway specialising in research focused on the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases of salmon.

He is an RCVS Specialist (Fish Health & Production, 2025 – 2029), a founding and current diplomate of the European College of Aquatic Animal Health (ECAAH) and a member of a WOAH ad hoc group on prioritisation of diseases for which vaccines could reduce global antimicrobial use in animals.  He also served as an independent Scientific Panel member for SAIC in Scotland from 2019 to 2026.

Rhona Macdonald, Managing Director of Moredun Scientific, said “I am delighted to welcome Hamish to the Moredun Scientific board. His extensive knowledge of the aquaculture industry will further strengthen our board and support the further development of our aquaculture contract research services.”

Hamish Rodger said “The global aquaculture industry is increasingly vital for society and food production. Among many challenges, fish disease presents the largest hurdle to a sustainable, economic and robust industry.  It is inspiring to see Moredun Scientific’s resources and expertise being applied to aquaculture to address the priority health needs of the national and international aquaculture sectors”
