Moredun: Advancing Livestock Health and Welfare
Moredun is committed to promoting livestock health and welfare through cutting-edge research and education. Recognised worldwide for its expertise in infectious diseases of livestock, Moredun
employs over 170 scientists, vets, and support staff. We actively engage with farmers, vets,
industry bodies, policymakers, and the general public to ensure our research provides practical
solutions for preventing and controlling livestock diseases.

Our Commitment to Global Challenges
Moredun’s mission is to develop nature-friendly livestock farming practices that promote both
environmental regeneration and improved animal health and welfare. These solutions with livestock
production at their centre address the 3 big challenges of:
Climate Change
Moredun is dedicated to enhancing livestock health and welfare through innovative scientific
solutions. Our focus on improving the quality, efficiency, and sustainability of food production
plays a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the agriculture sector.
Biodiversity Loss
We are at the forefront of developing preventative disease control measures that reduce the need for
drug treatments, helping to safeguard biodiversity. This approach minimizes environmental pollution
and slows the emergence of antimicrobial resistance.
Sustainable and Secure Food Production
Moredun’s research supports both regional and global food security by enhancing the efficiency of
food-producing species. We work to minimize disease in livestock, helping to reduce the greenhouse
gas emissions associated with food production systems and contributing to a more sustainable future.
Tackling Disease Through Research
Working closely with the farming community, we focus on:
-
Identifying the causes of disease -
Exploring how diseases develop and progress -
Developing effective vaccines
-
Designing disease prevention and treatment strategies -
Conducting disease surveillance -
Creating rapid and specific diagnostic tests
