Job Role
Bill is a farmer and is current Farm and Estate Manager at Preston Hall Farms, a post he has held since 1994. He was born and brought up in Belfast and studied at the West of Scotland Agricultural College.
Bill is a past Chair of Lothian Machinery Ring Ltd, Chair of the Dalkeith Agricultural Society and director of the Dalkeith Farmers’ Co-operative. He is a fellow of the Royal Agricultural Societies and also currently the Scottish Panel Chair of CARAS, The Council for the Awards of the Royal Agricultural Societies.
Bill was elected to the Board of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS) in 2005 and served as Chair from 2019 – 2022.
In recognition of outstanding service to agriculture, charity and the community in Scotland, Bill was awarded an MBE in the 2023 King’s Honours List. In addition, in recognition of Bill’s commitment to the use of innovation and technology, Bill was awarded the AgriScot Scottish Arable Farm of the Year in 2021.
Bill currently sits on the Board of the Moredun Foundation as the representative of RHASS and on the Board of Moredun Research Institute as Vice-Chair.
