Congratulations to Dr Philip Skuce among SRUC Honours recipients

Dr Philip Skuce received an Honorary Professorship from SRUC at this year’s graduation ceremonies in Glasgow.

Dr Philip Skuce is an internationally recognised livestock parasitologist and Principal Research Scientist at the Moredun Research Institute, with more than three decades of experience in sustainable livestock health.

His pioneering research into liver fluke, gastrointestinal parasites and anthelmintic resistance has helped transform livestock disease control in cattle and sheep, supporting more sustainable farming systems worldwide. A long-standing collaborator with SRUC, Dr Skuce has strengthened research partnerships, postgraduate supervision and knowledge exchange, while his leadership within Scotland’s Environment, Food and Agriculture Research Institutions (SEFARI) has helped shape national policy and industry practice. He is actively involved in SCOPS (Sustainable Control of Parasites in Sheep) and COWS (Control of Worms Sustainably), industry groups providing technical guidance to the UK sheep and cattle industries. He regularly delivers webinars, podcasts, seminars, keynotes and workshops in support of his work. His work continues to make a significant contribution to animal health, agricultural sustainability and scientific excellence.

Dr Philip Skuce said: “I am very honoured to receive this recognition from SRUC, an organisation I hold in very high regard. I have had the privilege of collaborating with SRUC colleagues over the years on initiatives in support of sustainable livestock production. I have also worked closely with the SAC Farm Advisory Service and SRUC Veterinary Services on various outreach and knowledge exchange activities. I look forward to continuing and strengthening these links and collaborations as we address the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
