Research Scientist 2

Reference: 04-07-24

Salary: £32,604 - £35,000 per annum

Closing date: 25/07/2024

About the role

Applications are invited for the post of Post-doctoral Research Scientist, which is part of a 3-year BBSRC-funded project aimed at developing a genetic selection control programme for maedi visna, an important infectious lentiviral disease of sheep. This is an exciting new collaboration between the Moredun Research Institute and the University of Nottingham that will deliver important tools for farmers to help reduce the economic and welfare impact of maedi visna.  The project focusses on a host protein, TMEM154, and its contribution to disease susceptibility. The postholder will perform laboratory studies to determine the cellular function of the sheep TMEM154 protein and its role in susceptibility to maedi visna virus infection. This is a fixed-term contract of three years.

  • A PhD in an area relevant to this role (e.g., cell biology, virology or similar field)
  • A proven record of technical laboratory skills in cellular and molecular biology, in particular cell culture, protein-protein interaction studies (e.g., pull-down assays, immunoprecipitation) and immunofluorescent imaging of cultured cells.
  • Proven ability to develop methods/new procedures and to analyse and interpret results.
  • A good record of publications and presentations at conferences
  • The ability to show initiative and keep up with new developments/techniques relevant to the work
