Deputy Finance Director

About the role

The Moredun Group is seeking a skilled Deputy Finance Director to support and help lead financial operations across its diverse portfolio, including The Moredun Foundation, Moredun Research Institute, Moredun Scientific Ltd, Pentlands Science Park Ltd, and affiliated entities.

You will be a qualified accountant with experience in managing complex financial environments, ideally across both commercial and not-for-profit sectors. Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills are essential, as is the ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.

Main Duties

  • Prepare consolidated and individual statutory and management accounts in line with financial reporting standards
  • Lead annual budgeting processes and support strategic planning across the Group
  • Oversee internal and external audits and service the Group Audit Committee
  • Support business development by evaluating financial viability of new opportunities
  • Ensure compliance with tax, VAT, payroll, pension, and company/charity law obligations
  • Improve internal controls and financial systems across the Group
  • Support treasury and investment portfolio management
  • Manage and develop the Finance Team to maintain a strong financial and compliance culture
  • Deputies for the Group Finance Director as required

Experience required

You will have the following experience –

  • Chartered accountant (ICAS/ICAEW or equivalent) with university degree
  • Finance management, including company and charity regulations, and practical experience of charity and commercial company accounts preparation
  • Leading a team of staff and their activities
  • IT in Microsoft Office Packages – advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook, and financial software programmes
