Research into the biology and control of poultry red mite at the Moredun Research Institute continues with major projects underway.
Earlier this year we began work on a major vaccine discovery project and are also using gene ‘knock down’ technology to gain further information into how the mites digest the blood meal. We are also on the final stretch of establishing a laboratory colony of poultry red mite. For these projects we need supplies of poultry red mites over the course of the summer and are asking our members to contact us if they can help.
